About the Irish Four Wheel Drive Club

IFWDC was established in December 1999 to allow like minded folk get together in a non-competitive way to enjoy a bit of off road driving, and a lot of craíc. We try to run events for people to enjoy, and to utilize their 4x4, whatever the make, model , year and level of modification that may or may not have been done. We have had current year non-modified vehicles with the original street tires at our events and on the other end of the scale we have had heavily modified / upgraded off road machines. The only thing we insist on is license and insurance, and the vehicle must be road taxed.

We have had quite a range of events, with reports and pictures from most of them on the web site. We are not a commercial organization, so we usually charge just a little over cost for the event entry fees to try and build up enough finances to cover the club's overheads. In order to achieve this, many members put in their time free of charge in getting ready for events and doing the legwork in order for these things to happen. I would like to thank those people very sincerely as without them there would not be a club.

Our plan is to run an event of some kind every month or 2. We try to make sure that our dates do not clash with the other 4x4 event dates that are held in Ireland (see County Kildare Motor Club for more details). These events could involve a weekend trip to the U.K. to a show (such as Billing), a jaunt to an off road centre or a spin around a mountain. We've even gone paintballing just for the hell of it.

The club committee meet once a month to review suggestions and to plan the coming few months. They have all been in the club since day 1, and look after the clubs interests. There are regular club social meetings where all members, and potential members can get together in a social setting (read 'pub') and the committee can go though any new items (events, new members etc.).

That's what we are all about. If you are interested in joining or want more information, please e-mail us at info@ifwdc.com. You could also just drop in to a club meeting and you can get to know us, and we can get to know you.

There is also an e-mail facility for events notification. E-mail info@ifwdc.com to be included on this (or removed).
