TRAIL DRIVE in WICKLOW - 1 OCTOBER 2000

The club recently went for a trail drive in the Wicklow Mountains near Baltinglass, Co. Wicklow. A total of 12 vehicles set off for the mountains early on Sunday morning (well, 10 o'clock is early for some).

Ready to go This is the group getting ready to go from outside Baltinglass Mart.
That's Brendan Murphy's Range Rover in the lead.
If you look closely, you can see Maureen in the passanger seat.

Mervyn Colton arrived with a wonderful new addition to his 90, a bike rack converted to carry his recently aquired waffle boards.

The Waffle Carrier
Rene's Jeep Rene Richardson was among the first to try them out.
Followed by Sheilagh Condon in her long wheelbase Terrano.

That's Mervyn looking very cold, by the way.

Alan Gettings

Alan Gettings did his best to drive off the edge of the waffles, but he still managed to get through.

While Dermot Gillespie in his Land Rover 90,

and Steve Mahon in his Toyota Land Cruiser all managed to drive through without any drama.

Damien Heneghan

By the time Damien came up to have a go, the waffles had mysteriously disappeared!

Once again, his heavy right foot came to the rescue.

Mervyn then developed the all new 'extreme' sport of 'Waffle Surfing' ™©® Surfin' Safari
Merv on a rock On the way back down the mountain, Mervyn decided to try a bit of rock climbing.
Damien kept encouraging him to go higher, but thoughts of mangled aluminium kept him from going (too) crazy.
Ivor Clegg had to have a go too.
It was only the pitiful cries of his wimpy passanger that prevented him from going further.
