This is our happy group getting ready for the off. Jimmy Dean's Ibex is followed by Damian Heneghan's 90, and Diarmaid Drennan's Trooper. |
Various unsavoury characters in front of Mervyn Colton's 90 and Edwin Pratt's Discovery. |
The Trooper and the Discovery take a break at the top of a mountain.
Note the tow ropes. Neither of these vehicles had to be rescued at any time during the whole day. Which cannot be said for some of the other 'off-roaders' out there. |
Edwin's Discovery leads the way.
The morning was spent driving the relatively easy and non-damaging routes across the mountains.
Time for lunch. Edwin and Robert bring on the provisions. |
Diarmaid got his trooper dirty. Both the Trooper and the Discovery coped fantastically well with the slick and muddy trails we were driving. The only off-road equipment either were fitted with was all-terrain tyres. A quick power wash at the end of the day, and you'd never know they had been off the tarmac. |
Mervyn's 90 leads Edwin's Disco.
See how clean the 90 is at this point.
Malcolm's 90 was equally clean at the time. Note the 2 Suzukis trying to keep up. |
The 90 was lightly soiled soon afterwards. Yes, that is a tarmac road in the background. |
| Try as he might, Mervyn couldn't seem to get his quite as dirty as Malcolm's. |
Larry Wickham's Suzuki had some difficulty with the Land Rover sized ruts, but he never failed to keep up. |
| Damian Heneghan easily coped with the tough conditions in his very well prepared 90. |
Even deep water held no fear for Damian and his brother Jonathan. |
| Unfortunately, Richard Lombard in his Suzuki trialler did not fare so well. |
When his engine died in the middle of the pond, he had to perform unspeakable acts on his fuel system to get it going again. |
| To finish off a perfect day, he then managed to fill his left boot with water as he got back in to drive out. |
